Building a Power Plant in Palmdale Was
NEVER a Good Idea! Sign the Petition to
Stop the Construction of the Power Plant!

Dear Palmdale Residents,

I am opposed to the power plant for many reasons. There are too many risks and there is no
benefit to the people in Palmdale. My research has lead me to believe that the people of Palmdale
have been
deceived. It’s time we know the truth about this reckless plan to build a power plant in
Palmdale:

They Claim:  It will bring 300 jobs and then later reduced the number to 60 jobs:

The Truth: No, it will bring less than 36 jobs and many of those proposed employees live out side
the Antelope Valley.

They Claim: It will Hook up to Plant 42

The Truth: No, it will not hook up to Plant 42 which is Federal property. Plant 42 official states,
“It will not hook  up to Plant 42, as we have no legal authority because it is a private power plant.”

They Clam
: To have scientific proof, that it is clean

The Truth: The EPA reports state that Power plants are the "...leading causes of Cancer, heart
failure, respiratory failure and asthma related illnesses.
" This power plant will release 1400 tons of
pollution annually into East Lancaster where there are families, churches and schools. If one
person can be stricken with cancer then the power plant cannot be built.

Visual pollution will extend 6 miles high in to the sky and remain and create low visibility for 6 –
11 days reaching into aircraft traffic. It will be visually unappealing - essentially taking away our
right to breathe clean fresh air.

They Claim it’s safe:

The Truth: No, it’s not safe. They plan to place a 36” High Pressured Gas Line 7.4 miles from
Avenue S to Avenue M under the City on the San Andreas Fault line. An earthquake can rupture
this gas line and the risk of immediate injury and death to the citizens is too great.

They Claim it will save us money.

The Truth: No, it will not. Would you prefer to pay 5 cents per Kilowatt or the increased rate the
plant Proposes at 14 cent per kilowatt? California Edison states that “...
they cannot give us this
power back at a discounted rate and to do so is illegal
.”

They Claims we need it.

The Truth: No we do not. It will hinder future business progress, it makes us bad neighbors to
communities in the Antelope Valley for not considering the harm it can do to the health
and safety of their families and it infringes upon our right to breathe clean fresh air.

They Claim that it is affordable to build.

The Truth: No it is not. Over 14 million of our dollars have been wasted on this power plant
already without our permission.

Because the Power Plant will use reclaimed water and gas - to power it, we have to ask  ourselves,
where is the water coming from  and who’s paying for it?

They told us that we were approving a
Sanitation district increase.

The Truth:  The private citizens were tricked into approving a 140% rate increase which is going
toward the building of a tertiary water plant to fuel this power plant. We were deceived into
believing that this reclaimed water would go toward watering parks and lawns. The truth is the
reclaimed water is going to be used to fuel the Power plant without our permission.

If this plant is so good for us, then why is it necessary to continuously deceive us? The answer:
Because the current Mayor knew that if we knew the truth about this power plant in the
beginning, we would not have approved this sanitation increase or the construction of the Power
Plant.

It is not right to use the sanitation district to fund a private power plant in Palmdale.

My research reveals that once approval is received on the permit they are requesting to have
before October 2011, to move forward with this power plant, they will sell it to a private party for
more than 60 million dollars. It is suspected that commissions will be paid given that there isn’t a
no 'arms length agreement' with certain supporters who have funded their political campaigns in
the past.

Clearly the current Mayor and his supporters stands to benefit, BUT the Power plant is of no
benefit to us, the citizens of Palmdale or the Antelope Valley.

Join me, say NO to the Power Plant. Get involved today.

With warm regards and great appreciation,
Maggie Campbell
